Yes, it would be awesome to have a robot you could control from the comfort of your own home. Yes, it would be nifty if you could do pretty much anything you wanted to with almost no consequences. But, that doesn’t mean you can make a movie that sucks, about those things. Surrogates was a horrible attempt at some kind of robotic social commentary, which is just one of the many like minded flicks released this fall. I haven’t seen Gamer, nor do I really plan on seeing Avatar, but I’m guessing they’re fairly similar piles of crap about the fear of robots infiltrating our lives. I wasn’t aware that this was such an imminent threat, let alone one that people cared about. Instead of making unfortunate films about Robots, let’s spend those millions on actually making the useful technology that these half-baked story lines revolve around. But for now we’ll have to settle for robots that bump around our floors vacuuming.
